The EUROCUP is Europe's second tier continental basketball competition, the equivalent of football's Europa League.
Founded in 2002, the tournament is made up of teams from European domestic national leagues that are part of Union of European Basketball Leagues and that do not have a contract to compete in the Euroleague.
Teams qualify for the tournament based on their performance in their national league and the winners of the competition qualify for the following season's Euroleague, Europe's premier club competition.
From the 2013/14 season the tournament has increased in size with 48 clubs participating in the regular season phase with eight groups of six competing for a place in the last 32 alongside the clubs who do not qualify for the Euroleague's Top 16. This phase of the competition and the last 16 adopt a group format before the knock-out phase of the competition is played from the quarter-finals.
Lietuvos Rytas, Valencia, Khimki, Real Madrid and Dynamo Moscow are all previous winners of this competition.
