Why watch EuroCup Live Streaming?

The EuroCup is considered a second-tier basketball league in Europe next to the Euroleague but that doesn't mean that it's inferior in terms of talent. In fact, most clubs in this league have played in the Euroleague before.

The EuroCup champions also get to participate in the following season's Euroleague and players who excel in this competition are regularly recruited by Euroleague participants during the season or the following year.

Among the EuroCup MVPs who went on to sign with Euroleague clubs are Robertas Javtokas, Justin Doellman and Rudy Fernandez. Tyrese Rice, meanwhile, led Maccabi Tel Aviv to the Euroleague title in 2014 and steered Khimki to the EuroCup crown the following season where he also earned regular-season and finals MVP honors.

Format

The EuroCup implemented a new format for the 2016-17 season. It originally featured 24 clubs but only 20 teams participated after several teams withdrew from the competition to join the newly-established Basketball Champions League organized by FIBA. In addition, Euroleague teams that fail to reach the Top 16 are no longer relegated to the EuroCup.

Regular Season
The 20 teams were divided into five groups and played their groupmates twice using a home-and-away format. The top four teams in each group after eight games qualified for the Top 16.

Top 16
The 16 qualifiers were then divided into four groups and played a double-round robin using a home-and-away format. The top two teams in each group after six games advanced to the quarterfinals

Quarterfinals
The eight remaining teams will face off in a best-of-three series with the winners advancing to the semifinals

Semifinals
The four remaining teams will play another best-of-three series with the winners advance to the finals

Finals
The semifinal winners will face off in another best-of-three affair with the winner taking home the prestigious trophy.

EuroCup History

The EuroCup was first played in 2002 when it was called the ULEB Cup. The second-tier competition used the name until 2008 when it changed its brand to the EuroCup. The competition is called the 7DAYS EuroCup starting in the 2016-17 season after signing a sponsorship deal with Greek food company Chipita.

Aside from bringing home a prestigious trophy, the EuroCup winners will also earn a ticket to the following season's Euroleague where they will get to play the best teams in the continent.

Spanish club Valencia is the most successful team in this competition with three titles followed by Lietuvos Rytas and Khimki with two apiece. Galatasaray is the defending champion after beating Strasbourg in their two-leg championship duel last season. The Turkish club is currently competing in the Euroleague.
