The FIBA Africa Championship, or the FIBA AfroBasket, is the men's basketball continental championship of Africa. It is played biennially under the banner of the basketball sport governing body Fédération Internationale de Basketball and the African zone thereof.
The Africa Championship is a platform for teams to qualify for even bigger tournaments including the FIBA World Championship and the Olympic basketball tournament.
The first ever FIBA Africa Championship was held in Cairo back in 1962 with Egypt, who were then known as the UA Republic, taking the spoils with a 66-42 success over Sweden in the Final.
Angola are the most successful team in the history of the FIBA Africa Championship with 11 gold medals under their belt as well as three silver and two bronze. Their last success came in 2013 when they got the better of Egypt in the Final.
Egypt, on the other hand, has won more medals than Angola but they have only secured five gold with the remaining 12 being split equally between silver and bronze.
