The Korean Basketball League is the main male tournament currently held in Korea. South Korea has established itself as a professional basketball nation. The KBL and its clubs attract many fans to the courts and even more viewers at home.
The South Korean season begins at the end of October and ends in April. Players from other countries are rarely allowed to join one of the ten league clubs.
The division was founded in 1997 and the most successful team in the history of the competition is Jeonju KCC Egis with five championships safely tucked under their belt – Their last one was back in 2011 when they defeated Wonju Dongbu Promy 4-2.
Next in line with the most number of championship victories is Ulsan Mobis Phoebus who have four, while the first ever title went to Busan Kia Enterprise.
