The Lithuanian Basketball League (Lietuvos Krepšinio Lyga (LKL)) is Lithuania's premier professional men's basketball league. It consists of 12 clubs, of which Žalgiris and Lietuvos rytas are perhaps the most well known around Europe given their success in the division. Žalgiris in particular have a phenomenal record in the LKL, most notably winning six championships in a row between 1994-1999.
USA's Tanoka Beard, Marcus Brown and Chuck Eidson are just some of the foreign stars to have made a major impact in the league in recent years, while domestic stars Robertas Javtokas and Martynas Gecevičius have also tasted LKL Finals MVP success.
The winners of the LKL earn qualification to Europe's elite club basketball competition, the Euroleague, which allows Lithuania's finest to pit their wits against the likes of FC Barcelona Regal, CSKA Moscow, Olympiakos and Panathinaikos, amongst others, on the continental scene.
