NBL Australian basketball - official live streams, news & match reports on Livebasketball.com
Australia's National Basketball League (NBL) is regarded as one of the premier basketball club competitions in the world and as such, it's little surprise that it's home to some of the world's best players.
Since 1979, the NBL has grown from a fledgling league, with matches played in front of just a small number of spectators, to a tournament that attracts over 750,000 fans to games each season, and that's before factoring in the global TV and live streaming interest.
Eight teams currently compete in the NBL, with the Adelaide 36ers, Cairns Taipans, Melbourne Tigers, New Zealand Breakers, Perth Wildcats, Sydney Kings, Townsville Crocodiles and Wollongong Hawks all familiar names to basketball fans in both the Southern and Northern hemispheres.
Five-time Olympian Andrew Gaze, scoring-machine Leroy Loggins, five-time championship-winner Larry Sengstock, and veterans Ray Borner and James Crawford are just some of the star names to have graced the division over the years and as the league continues grow in stature, no doubt there'll be many more like them.
The regular NBL season usually commences in October and continues until March. The NBL Finals Series meanwhile, sees the top four ranked teams at the end of the regular season face off in a best-of-three series, before the best-of-three Grand Final Series concludes in mid-April.
